Brought to you by Michael Stover at the MTS Management Group Genre: Country, Rock
MuzicNotez: First off, it’s an honor to be doing this interview with you Josey, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us.
What motivated you to start creating music? What age did you begin?
Josey Milner: I’ve always been singing, no matter when or where. I started singing the National Anthem at my rodeos, which led to me being invited to sing at the National Steel Guitar Convention in St. Louis, MO. It was there that I was told I should get a band together and try out the career. People told me that they thought I had a lot of potential and could go far. So I held auditions, got a band together, and started the career.
MuzicNotez: Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the musician you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?
Josey Milner: My favorite artist period is Miranda Lambert. My mom and I have followed her career since she was on Nashville Star. I just really love how she doesn’t care what anyone thinks about her and she doesn’t let the fame get to her. Besides Miranda, I still love artists like George Strait, Patsy Cline, Eric Church, Carrie Underwood, Justin Moore, the list can just go on and on. It’s hard to pick just one because there has been so many great country music artist.
MuzicNotez: What’s the greatest concert you’ve ever been to or performed?
Josey Milner: The best concert I’ve been to would either be when I saw Miranda Lambert with opener Eric Church, or when I saw Neil McCoy at the American Royal in Kansas City. They we’re both amazing. As far as the best one I’ve performed at, it would have to be when I opened up for Scotty McCreery. It was so unbelievable and the crowd was great. I was able to walk out on a stage that went into the crowd and people were giving me high fives and wanting to touch my hands, like the stuff that you see at concerts. It was so cool! I like to say it was my 15 minutes of fame. :] Plus, after the concert, I had several people taking pictures of me and signing autographs for them. They were even taking pictures of me if I was just standing there! It was truly amazing!
MuzicNotez: What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as a musician? Any particular message you wish to send?
I just want to continue playing out with my band and take this career as far as I can. I want people to know that this is what I love doing. Along with this career, I’m trying to help spread the word about bullying along side Angels and Doves, a non-profit anti-bullying organization that I’m associated with.
MuzicNotez: You grew up on a farm in Missouri, sang the American Anthem before rodeos and seem to embody the country genre. Was it always your dream to become a country singer?
Josey Milner: In all honesty, I hadn’t really thought about the music business as my career. I did tell my parents that they would hear me on the radio someday, but up until singing at the National Steel Guitar Convention, I thought my career was going to be in rodeo.
MuzicNotez: Your debut single “Dead Flowers” received airplay all over the world and placed in the top 10 of an internationally recognized country music chart. How does it feel to receive all of that early success, and how has it motivated you to move forward?
Josey Milner: It was so crazy to think that people around the world were listening to my music. Especially with being new to the industry, it was crazy to think that was already happening. I was so excited and so happy to have already have airplay like that. All the support and appreciation people are showing me gives me inspiration and motivation every day. If it wasn’t for all the support I’ve had so far, there would be no way that I would be where I am today.
MuzicNotez: Your latest single release is “Not Pretty Enough”, what’s the motivation behind this song?
Josey Milner: Not Pretty Enough was a song that my manager, Michael, found.
He thought it would be a good one for me to do, so he sent it over to me and I loved it, especially the lyrics. Unfortunately I did not write it.
It’s such a great song and I’m so excited about everything that it’s done for me. What that song stands for and what it’s incorporated with is always something people tell me they appreciate. I’m still having people contacting me and telling me stories about real life experiences with bullying. It’s so heart warming to know people really care about what I’m doing and love what I’m doing.
MuzicNotez: What do you like to do when you’re not creating music?
Josey Milner: I like to do a little bit of everything. I have a corgi that keeps me on my toes. I also like to draw and do graphic design on the computer. I’m still in high school, so that’s 8 hours of my day when it’s not summer. I also like riding horses and four-wheelers. Pretty much anything that seems fun, isn’t dangerous, and won’t get me in trouble, I’m up for.
MuzicNotez: This is just the beginning for your music career, so what lies ahead for you? What can we expect?
Josey Milner: For right now, I was in the studio a couple weeks ago working on my next single which should hopefully be released soon. Along with that, we’re working on my EP. Besides getting back into the studio, just keep playing out with my band and making a name for myself.
MuzicNotez: Anything else you wish to say about yourself or your music? Any message for your fans?
Josey Milner: Just a huge thank you to anyone who has helped me get to where I am today. This is a hard career, and all the support I’ve had has made it worth it.
