MuzicNotez: First off, it’s an honor to be doing this interview with you Erik, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us.
What motivated you to start creating music? What age did you begin?
Convulsic: Its funny, I tell everyone about it. I remember being really young and hearing different techno remixes of video games like Zelda or Mario or something and I always wanted to make it. Turns out, Dubstep is where it took me.
MuzicNotez: How did you come up with the name Convulsic?
Convulsic: I wanted something that was different but still easy to find and obviously when people dance to Dubstep, it seems like a Convulsion, but from the business side of things, I wanted it to be search engine friendly, so I thought of a Convulsic Syndrome, hence why my first EP is also called Syndrome. People look up Convulsic Syndrome, they find me!
MuzicNotez: Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the musician you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?
Convulsic: I actually used to play in a reggae rock band, so bands like Rebelution and The Expendables were my go to. All along, I was listening to Electronic music like Tiesto and Swedish House. Then Skrillex came out and completely blew my mind and I decided to make Dubstep. Now, I really follow Zomboy, Avius, Seven Lions, and anything that has that melodic sound with intense bass drops.
MuzicNotez: What’s the greatest concert you’ve ever been to or performed?
Wow I would say the greatest show I ever saw was Incubus! They played the greatest hits tour in San Diego and it had all of their best songs. Completely blew me away!
MuzicNotez: What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as a musician? Any particular message you wish to send?
Convulsic: Yes. I have told everyone from the beginning, that I want to achieve my goals in the most respectable way possible. I want people to see that the music industry doesn’t need to be so cutthroat. We can help each other ride to the top! That’s why you will never hear me have negativity on someone else’s art.
MuzicNotez: You’ve been working on shooting a music video, what song is the video for? How did filming go?
Convulsic: The video is for my song “Love Space” which is off of my up-coming EP. It went well, my friends at One Push productions did excellent work on the video.
The toughest part was the amount of hours we spent filming- I think we nailed it though.
MuzicNotez: You have also recorded an EP which is set to be released soon. How will this differ from your debut EP ‘Syndrome’? What was the recording process like?
Convulsic: Wow so many differences. I think I have developed myself into the genre a lot more, but also have my own sound. The recording process was tougher because I have become more picky as to what I put in songs. I will never release something that I am not one hundred percent on.
MuzicNotez: What is your writing style like? Do you create all of your beats?
Convulsic: Yes. I try to use only my own sounds, accept vocals, which you need to purchase. I would say my writing style is melodic chaos. At least that’s what they tell me!
MuzicNotez: What else are you working on? What can we expect to see and hear from you in the future?
Convulsic: Right now, I am working on my website www.convulsic.com, which I am developing myself because like I said I am a perfectionist! Also have some publishing coming my way and features on radio, and of course more songs!
MuzicNotez: Anything else you wish to say about yourself or your music? Any message for your fans?
Convulsic: Yes, there is a way to make it in the industry without stepping on others. Don’t be afraid to reach out your hand to another artist, or to post about them and respect the art! That will go a long way not just in music, but also in life!
