MuzicNotez Interview:
- How long have you been a musician? What age did you begin? What motivated you to become a musician?
- Chance Primo: In all reality I started creating music in 2009, that’s when I recorded my very first legitimate track, “BOW DOWN.” However, I feel that it is imperative to voice that I have been creating my own songs spontaneously ever since I was old enough to sit on the toilet. I had always enjoyed music while growing up, no matter what kind it was I cud always find a way to entertain myself with it. The real motivation to pursue my talent and create music although came to me in desperate times in my life. I was 21 years old and had nothing to call my own due to an abundant amount of mistakes I had made around that time, to sum up the details I was homeless. It was only then while battling alcoholism that I realized the importance of my talent and how I could use it to stay sober. Realizing that an idle hand is the devils best friend is what truly motivated me to put my time and effort into writing music.
- How’d you come up with the name Chance Primo?
- Chance Primo: Chance Primo basically my real name. My first name is Chanceler but to keep it short my friends and family find it convenient to just call me Chance. My last name is Primeau, it is pronounced Pre-mo, and the meaning and definition past through many languages and cultures suggests that the word or name is “the best, first class, 1st place, the highest.”
- Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the musician you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?
- Chance Primo: Growing up I found myself surrounded by people that all had different tastes in music. The community in which I was raised I would have to say generally influenced me to listen to the genres of hip hop, R&B and rap music. Bone thugs n Harmony, Biggy Smalls, Eminem and 2pac were among my favorite artists when I was young. My family as well as friends on the other hand also had a helping part in broadening my music interests by introducing me to the likes of alternative, rock, reggae, techno, country, and pop. For examples; Nirvana, A/C D/C, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Bob Marley, ATB, Infected Mushroom, Kenny Chesney, and Michael Jackson were all popular selections at one point in time. Still though with this said, my heart and passion for music no doubt lies within rap/hip-hop/r&b music and because of this I have focused on these areas of music but that will not limit me to experiment with others in the future.
- What do you consider to be the pro’s and con’s to being an independent artist like yourself?
- Chance Primo: PRO) I can make watever kind of music I want at any given time, even if it is not serious. It allows me to be more personal with my fan base.
Con) It limits me from having the equipment needed to create music due to funding and also does not have the benefits of promotional output of my music because I am but one man trying to play the roles the many people needed to really help get my music heard by more individuals.
