Interview with Alternative Rock Artist Hanna Rautzenberg on New single ‘Inbetweener’, the German music scene & what’s next
MuzicNotez: First off, it’s an honor to be doing this interview with you, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us. What motivated you to start creating music? What age did you begin?
Hanna Rautzenberg: I have always had a close connection to music. I grew up with good, handmade music and started playing the violin at the age of 5. A little later, I taught myself to play the guitar. The older I got, the more I put my emotions into music and started writing my first songs at around the age of 13. Since then, I have been processing my feelings and thoughts in my works.
Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the musician you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?
Hanna Rautzenberg: I have always been fascinated by handmade and organic music. Artists like Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Alanis Morissette, Sheryl Crow, and David Bowie have always been a great inspiration to me. But the new pop icons like Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo, as well as indie artists like boygenius, Orla Gartland, and Sam Fender, also helped me find my sound.
What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as a musician? Any particular message you wish to send?
Hanna Rautzenberg: I want to touch people and make them feel like they’re not alone. Many young girls, in particular, are under societal pressure and feel like they have to fit into a specific mold. My music is meant to show them that it’s okay to be different.

What’s the greatest concert you’ve ever been to or performed?
Hanna Rautzenberg: In the past year, I had the incredible opportunity to play some amazing support gigs, including for LEONY, Kelvin Jones, and the German band Silbermond. All of these performances were fantastic for me!
Your latest release is the single ‘Inbetweener’, which we’re loving! How would you describe this song? What inspired it?
Hanna Rautzenberg: My current single “Inbetweener” is a very special song for me. My whole life, I have felt like I didn’t truly belong anywhere. Too unusual for the countryside – too boring for the city. Torn between pop and indie music. I often felt alone because of this. I wrote “Inbetweener” to show that it’s cool to be different and that you’re never alone in your feelings of being torn.
You’re an independent artist in Germany, what’s the music scene like there for emerging artists?
Hanna Rautzenberg: In Germany, there are incredibly many great newcomers – probably just like everywhere else in the world! It is, of course, a challenge to gain visibility among all the artists – especially with English-language music, it is not easy here.
This is just the beginning of your music career, and you’re already finding a lot of success. How does this moment feel like for you? What’s the process been like so far launching your new music?
Hanna Rautzenberg: I am overjoyed that I can finally release my songs. There is a lot of passion and hard work in these songs. It’s great to see that the previous singles have been well received, and I can’t wait to drop the next works.
What else are you working on? What can we expect to see and hear from you in the future?
Hanna Rautzenberg: We are working on many new songs that are just waiting to be released. The next single will be coming very soon!
