Interview with Pop Artist bby ivy

MuzicNotez: First off, it’s an honor to be doing this interview with you, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us. What motivated you to start creating music? What age did you begin?

bby ivy: I started creating music at the age of 8 because I was obsessed with this Norwegian singer that went on Eurovision Junior. I wrote my first song at age 8 so that I could submit it to the competition. However, my parents thought I would regret it in the long run and never sent it off, thinking I’d regret it. I also loved Hannah Montana, and became obsessed with being a pop artist. My whole family is incredibly musical as well.

Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the musician you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?

bby ivy: Growing up, my dad played a lot of The Beatles and Queen around the house. Music became a special bond between us. I loved creating songs with him, even though he had no production experience, just so I could have my recorded song that I always dreamt of.

What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as a musician? Any particular message you wish to send?

bby ivy: My music heavily addresses mental health topics, reflecting my personal struggles with self-acceptance, self-worth, depression, anxiety, and experiences of sexual assault. I want my music to provide the same comfort and support that music gave me during those difficult times. Without music, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

What’s the greatest concert you’ve ever been to or performed?

bby ivy: Been to: definitely Beyoncé. She is such a powerhouse and so insanely talented. Her album 4 heavily influences my music. Also, I watched Rihanna at her Anti Tour and it changed my life.

Performed: Performing in the rain while supporting Conor Maynard on tour in Amsterdam might be the best moment of my life so far. Just as I began my only acoustic song of the set, “Play Pretend,” it started pouring rain. It was such a surreal, pinch-me moment, and it’s something I’ll remember forever.

Your latest release is the single ‘Did It Make You Feel Like A Man’. What inspired this song and what does it mean to you?

bby ivy: This track is deeply personal to me as it delves into my own experience with sexual assault. Through raw emotion and heartfelt lyrics, I aim to shed light on the struggles faced by survivors while empowering them to speak out and seek support.

How do you create your music? What’s the recording process?

bby ivy: It starts with a chat, almost like a therapy session. We catch up, then the producer starts crafting a sound that matches our mood. Ideas and melodies flow naturally, and we refine the track until it feels right.

You’re finding a lot of success early on as an independent artist. What do you think is the key to succeeding as an artist today?

bby ivy: Success as an artist requires relentless hard work and persistence. Though it might seem like early success from the outside, it’s the result of years of effort since I was 8 years old. I’m driven by my passion and the realization that I’m still far from where I want to be.

What else are you working on? What can we expect to see and hear from you in the future?

bby ivy: I have a lot of unreleased songs. Right now, I’m selecting the ones that feel most true to me. This is the toughest part for sure. I want to make sure the music I’m putting out aligns with my personal goals for what I want to achieve through my music.

Anything else you wish to say about yourself or your music? Any message for your fans?

bby ivy: To those who listen to my music and find comfort in it: things will get better. I’ve had countless moments where I thought about giving up, but I’m grateful I didn’t. Hold on to what makes you happy. Thank you for supporting my music.
