Interview with Electronic Artist Galactica Tranctica

MuzicNotez: First off, it’s an honor to be doing this interview with you, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us. What motivated you to start creating music? What age did you begin?

Galactica Tranctica: I have been the creative force behind Galactica Tranctica and exhibited a passion for music from a young age. Born in the United Kingdom, I began composing music at the age of five. By the age of 17, I had already composed and written my first song, marking the beginning of my journey into music production. I learnt myself how to read and write music at the age of 17 and started out composing classical music. Then later I decided that I really enjoy trance/ psytrance music and began composing that genre of music.

Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the musician you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?

Galactica Tranctica: Growing up, several musical icons profoundly shaped my development as a musician. Elvis Presley’s blend of blues, country, and gospel taught me the importance of performance and genre fusion. Motown artists like Marvin Gaye and Chic influenced my approach to songwriting with their soulful melodies and emotional depth. Lady Gaga’s powerful vocals and boundary-pushing creativity inspired me to be bold and innovative.

Discovering Grimes was a turning point. Her unique blend of electronic music, pop, and experimental sounds, along with her creative approach to production and art, deeply influenced me. Grimes’s dedication to creative control and innovation motivates me to explore electronic elements and hands-on production in my own music. I would love to collaborate with her one day.

What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as a musician? Any particular message you wish to send?

Galactica Tranctica: I plan to keep releasing great music, and plan to go to Cambridge University (one of the finest universities in the world!) next year to study music further and qualify as a music teacher! I hope my music gets more recognition over time by appearing in more magazines and getting my music on more playlists and the ultimate goal is to get into the charts!

What’s the greatest concert you’ve ever been to or performed?

Galactica Tranctica: The greatest gig I have been to, is a gig that I organized myself in the town of Shrewsbury. I had organized lots of independent artists to play their music to raise money for charity and at the end of the night we had raised quite a lot of money for Mind UK which I was proud of. I really enjoyed this particular gig, since I had to manage everything such as which artists go on first and who is on next to the sound and the lighting.

Your latest release is the album ‘Forgotten Forever’, what inspired this album? How would you describe it?

Galactica Tranctica: My new album, ‘Forgotten Forever’, was released on June 18, 2024. This album takes listeners on an emotional journey, telling the story of a kind-hearted man from a past village. Known for his generosity and compassion, he spent his life helping the villagers. However, when he became seriously ill, the villagers, driven by selfishness, neglected and eventually expelled him. The album delves into themes of empathy, betrayal, and the enduring human spirit through intricate compositions. I aimed to create a story that deeply resonates with human emotions and societal behaviors. Utilizing synthesizers, I crafted an expansive soundscape that merges the intensity of trance with the calm of easy listening. Fans and new listeners are invited to experience this auditory journey, showcasing the evocative storytelling and innovative sound design of ‘Forgotten Forever’. Ultimately my new album represents that through selfishness, discrimination and stereotyping the world can be a cruel place. I sincerely hope in the future, with the rise of AI, that people are kinder to each other and live a life free of discrimination, selfishness and hate.

How did you come up with the name Galactica Tranctica for this music project?

Galactica Tranctica: I (Jason Poole) founded Galactica Tranctica in 2022. I chose the stage name ‘Galactica Tranctica’ because the main genre of music I create is trance music and that is what the word ‘Tranctica’ represents. The word ‘Galactica’ represents galactic or out of this world.

What is your process for creating new music? How do you record it?

Galactica Tranctica: My process for creating new music begins with inspiration, often from personal experiences or stories that resonate deeply with me. I primarily use digital synthesizers to develop my sound, which allows me to experiment with a wide range of tones and textures. For recording, I use Logic Pro X and Ableton Live, which provide the flexibility and tools I need to bring my ideas to life.
Some tracks are recorded in a professional studio to ensure the highest quality, especially for complex or intricate parts that benefit from expert engineering. I also master my own music, leveraging my qualifications as a music practitioner to ensure the final product meets my standards. For my album Forgotten Forever, the entire recording and mastering process took seven months. This time was spent carefully crafting each track, layering sounds, and refining the compositions to convey the emotional journey I envisioned.

What else are you working on? What can we expect to see and hear from you in the future?

Galactica Tranctica: I have a new single coming out on the 1st August 2024. The single is called ‘Hiraeth’ and it is about reincarnation or simulation theory. This evocative instrumental track transports listeners on an emotional journey, delving into themes of nostalgia, longing, and the timeless connection between past and present lives.

“Hiraeth” opens with a gentle piano and violin melody, setting a serene and reflective mood. As the song progresses, the lush orchestral arrangement gradually unfolds, with the violin taking centre stage. The violin’s soulful and poignant notes weave through the composition, evoking a deep sense of yearning and melancholy.

The music of “Hiraeth” explores the profound emotions tied to remembering those left behind in a past life and the bittersweet experience of reincarnation. The instrumental melodies capture the essence of an eternal bond that transcends time and space, resonating with anyone who has ever felt the pull of an indescribable connection to another time or place.
