Interview with Hip Hop Artist T-Zank

MuzicNotez: First off, it’s an honor to be doing this interview with you, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us.

What motivated you to start creating music? What age did you begin?

T-Zank: I loved classic rock from an early age ; riding around with my Dad as he blared all of the big groups from the 60s & 70s. I was extremely drawn to the expert guitarists, such as Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan & Eric Clapton. At the age of 8, I received my first guitar and began taking lessons. This is where I first had aspirations to be a rockstar and make a career in music.

MuzicNotez: Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the musician you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?

T-Zank: Aside from the classic rock realm in general , I found bands such as Linkin Park, Rage Against The Machine & Incubus to be highly influential early in my dreams of making music. The rebellious and unique nature of their sounds inspired me to do something similar in my own way. As I grew up into high school, I fell in love with rap, and it started with Killer Mike. The passion and struggle of his story resonated deeply with me , although in a different emotional way, as I didn’t grow up in the streets. I grew up with a lot of medical problems , so I related struggle in general to other artists who had fought through terrible moments of personal anguish to triumph into who they are today and fuel the sound that made them recognizable.

MuzicNotez: What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as a musician? Any particular message you wish to send?

T-Zank: My main goal was always to make a sustainable & comfortable career that supports my family and is something I can do everyday with a smile on my face. Having achieved that for a little over a decade , my sights are set on influencing the world in a positive way with my sound and grind , small and large. At home here in my community (Fort Wayne, IN) and worldwide via social media. The message is largely love ; love yourself and others , and utilize whatever passion you have been blessed with to provide others with inspiration and a definition of purpose in this life.

MuzicNotez: What’s the greatest concert you’ve ever been to or performed?

T-Zank: My team and I did a small arena tour with Kevin Gates last year , mainly in the greater Midwest. We’ve done a bunch of events like this , but this run in particular, we had 5k people every night fully engaged with our set and what we do. Hands up, phone lights out, and turnt. The footage is insane haha. Memories we will never forget ! Can’t wait for the next run like this. We recently did arena shows with Ludacris , Ja Rule / Ashanti & Nelly that were powerful experiences as well. Being in front of such massive crowds are feats we dreamed of for many years. Performing is where this all began for me as far as professional career vibes go and being able to make a good chunk of change , and its one of my favorite aspects of this business.

MuzicNotez: Your latest release is the single ‘For The Moment’, how would you describe this track? What’s it mean to you?

T-Zank: This song is all about living every single day in the present with a clear mind and approach to business , relationships and life in general. Being able to discern that all we really are guaranteed is the moment , and to approach each one positively with a grateful and focused heart / mind / soul.

MuzicNotez: You have found a lot of success, rising to the top of charts and millions of views. What kind of advice would you give to other independent artists to succeed?

T-Zank: Do you. Make the music you want to make; whatever your soul is speaking. Give little thought to what any given listener may want to hear , and understand that telling your story your way is what will resonate with potential fans. Invest in yourself consistently , and work every day toward that which you care deeply about , without any kind of time limit in mind. Set short and long term goals , but never forget to enjoy the moment. Last but never least, always have fun. The second it’s no longer fun means it’s time to take a break.

MuzicNotez: What do you think about the current state of hip hop music?

T-Zank: I run a couple music studios in my city and stay incredibly busy with the clients that come through, in addition to my own creations. In all honesty , I don’t listen to much that comes out industry wise on a day to day basis. There’s definitely still some artists that release music that I care to listen to , but I’m largely focused on my own sound as well as the artists I work with on a daily basis. Being independent as long as I have , what the industry has going on doesn’t peak my interest most of the time. Everyone I follow largely carved their own path/sound in this space, so that’s my mentality toward it in general and overall.

MuzicNotez: What else are you working on? What can we expect to see and hear from you in the future?

T-Zank: I’m dropping a song a week currently , for the foreseeable future. Having a massive amount of fun in putting out and promoting a bunch of content , and trying a variety of different styles and sounds. You can expect to see me pushing a bunch of different singles consistently , and can stay tuned as I announce new festival appearances and shows mainly across the United States , but also some internationally this year.
