Interview with Electronic Artist Groovemasta
MuzicNotez: First off, it’s an honor to be doing this interview with you again, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us.
So you’ve been through a lot recently, first off, let’s talk about the accidents that have delayed some of your releases. What happened?
- Groovemasta: Yeah, it has been a tough 2 and a half months! First, I was on my motorcycle and a car stopped in front of me. Blocking the lane I was in, leaving me nowhere to go and I had to ditch the bike to not go straight into the side of the car! Because I wear full safety gear, I came out of that with only a fractured collar bone and a few minor injuries. Then, Thursday, a week ago I got hit by a truck while walking which refractured my collar bone and fractured my skull, plus caused a range of other injuries!
MuzicNotez: Beyond that, you were misdiagnosed and given the wrong meds. How has this effected you?
- Groovemasta: Being misdiagnosed with psychosis and put on the wrong meds at a very high dose for many years has caused some brain, Central Nervous System and Kidney damage, which has had quite a huge impact on my life in a number of ways and resulted in my newest release “Wake the Giant” being delayed by a year and 8 months. Last year I was tapering off of the meds which was total hell and this year my doctor has been trying treatment options to reverse the damages done. Unfortunately it hasn’t helped yet and there is no way of knowing for sure if it can be reversed or not. The CNS is one of the most important parts of the body, is very fragile and difficult to repair!

MuzicNotez: Being an independent artist, all of these real life issues really effect your music career. How has it effected yours?
- Groovemasta: It has affected mine by not being able to release any new material in almost 2 years, which as we know is never a good thing when trying to keep momentum you have managed to build up going! The saying “Out of sight, out of mind” is even more true as an independent artist! Once you get things going, you have to keep them going or you will have to start from the beginning again!
MuzicNotez: As an artist, a lot of inspiration for your music comes from life. But it can also be hard to feel inspiration to create music when you’re not feeling well. How do you balance this?
- Groovemasta: That can be very tough to do, I have always believed in keeping it real! I never made my battle with drug addiction and mental health a secret. I think that both are still very overlooked and misunderstood, even in today’s day and age. I try and use my music and other forms of art I do to create awareness for both! I’m also an Administrator and Moderator on a few Discord servers that focus on both areas. If you would like to find out more or need someone to talk to hit me up on Facebook or go to my website and send me an email!
MuzicNotez: There may have been some delays, but you have some new music dropping at the end of the year. What can you tell us about this?
- Groovemasta: The plan was to have my new album “Wake the Giant” released before the end of the year, but with my recent accident being hit by a truck, it sadly may be delayed by a week or so. I have also decided to make it an EP instead with it being so far behind schedule. It is still relevant as it still represents my return, as such, but my new album will be called “The Long Road” as it has been a very long road getting back to making music!
MuzicNotez: Where can people find this music? What kind of playlists on Spotify would you recommend it for?
- Groovemasta: My music is on all the streaming sites, Apple Music, Tidal, Spotify and etc. I would say the playlists I’d recommend it for are Drum n Bass, Electronic, Experimental. I don’t believe in putting limits on creativity! If it’s a good song, it’s a good song!
MuzicNotez: You touch on mental health issues in your music, especially your new releases. How do you feel like music has helped you with any mental health issue? Any advice for others dealing with similar issues?
- Groovemasta: Music has always been there for me in one way or another, which is why I’ve always wanted to make music. It is a way to be there for people coz people listen to music when they are sad, happy, having a good time etc. The best compliment I ever got was when a guy came up to me one day and told me that the night before he was feeling all depressed and suicidal. He listened to one of my songs and it gave him a new outlook on life and hope for the future! That’s the kind of impact I would like my music have, of course making more money from it would be cool, but that’s not as important to me as having a positive impact on people’s lives is!
MuzicNotez: What else are you working on? What can we expect to see and hear from you in the future?
- Groovemasta: I’ve also started a Rap/Hard Rock/Metal/Electronic band with my rapper friend Fortune called Mapinduzi Frequency. For those who don’t know, Mapinduzi is Swathi for “Revolution”. Unfortunately that’s been put on hold till I can play bass guitar and guitar due to my recent accidents, but we are looking for a way around that issue at the moment!
MuzicNotez: Anything else you wish to say about yourself or your music? Any message for your fans?
- Groovemasta: I want to say thank you for the continued support of my fans, especially on Apple Music who have kept supporting me through these very tough almost 2 years! Music is the very essence of my being and nothing will stop me from making music! I just want to be able to reach more people so that they can also feel the positive effects music can have!
I am also working on a YouTube series which will cover a range of topics. From Drug Addiction Recovery to the struggles with Mental Health and various other daily struggles people go through! It’s still in the beginning stages of planning but I think it will have a lot to offer many people from all over the world! Follow my Facebook Page for further info on that and anything else I will be doing. Being Administrator and Moderator on Drug Recover and Mental Health servers the past couple of years has taught me a great deal about the daily struggles people go through!
