Interview with Folk Artist Susan Daigle on New Single 'I'm Sorry'

MuzicNotez: What motivated you to start creating music? What age did you begin?

Susan Daigle: Thank you and it is my pleasure 🙂 What motivated me is realizing that music made me feel and that to me music is a feeling. I am not ashamed to say I have anxiety and depression that began at a very young age. So, what made me start creating was it is a release for me and by creating and writing music for me is much like a release or an expression of my deepest feelings about things in life I am passionate about.

MuzicNotez: Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the musician you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?

Susan Daigle: First, I have to say my brother, as he was a songwriter as well and wrote some very beautiful songs, and I wanted to be just like him. I have listened to many different groups and music genres. At ages 6 and 7 I would listen to Dean Martin and rock in my mom’s rocking chair for hours enjoying his love songs. Some of the groups that I grew up with that were my favorites are Led Zepplin, even though they were a rock band some of their songs were full of such beautiful melody and Robert plant sang with such feeling! and The Rolling stones. I thought similar about them, some of their songs were very beautiful as well. But in the same sentence I loved Barry White and Marvin Gay, to name just a couple but there are many more. Later on, I became a big fan of Thin Lizzy, Blue Oyster Cult, and Black Sabath.

MuzicNotez: What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as a musician? Any particular message you wish to send?

Susan Daigle: Most of my life my goal was to make a CD and playing out for people. I loved to perform as a kid. My parents and mom’s siblings would set up a stage area my dad built and we would perform for them, they would clap and cheer for us My sister, cousin and I “My parents were very supportive! and are very fond memories for me”
Anyway, my music partner at the time Teresa Whitney “My drummer and percussionist” We were known as Lemon Grass Girls. We played out in and around Bangor Maine, we made a CD I felt I had fulfilled my dream making the CD and back then there were no internet opportunities like Spotify and Sound Cloud so making the CD and into public circulation felt big for us! Now as years have passed my hope is to one day write for movies/videos, so now I guess this has become my dream.

MuzicNotez: What’s the latest release of yours? Tell us about it.

Susan Daigle: My latest release is (I’m Sorry), I wrote for my mom that passed when i was 15 years old. we didn’t get along well when I got into my teenage years when I turned to drugs and alcohol trying to self-medicate. So, I was a little on the wild side and my parents put me in a group home for disturbed children. When I moved back home 2 weeks after my mom had a heart attack and passed away. The song I wrote is just saying I am sorry for all I did and said to her.
