MuzicNotez: What motivated you to start creating music? What age did you begin?
- Pete Price (The Price Brothers): Listening to Bob Dylan. He has such a great way with words and I realized that as a beginner on guitar that I could play a lot of his songs, so I started making up my own. My father was a minister and he allowed me to play some of my music at the “early service” where there wasn’t usually music, so I got a little used to playing my own stuff as far back as my teens.

MuzicNotez: Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the musician you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?
- Pete Price: I’ve mentioned Dylan. Of course The Beatles have been a huge influence on me along with singer-songwriters like James Taylor, Jackson Browne, and Dan Fogelberg. From a guitar playing standpoint, I loved the Allman Brothers and pretty much wore out my vinyl copy of “Live At The Fillmore”… so much great guitar playing on that album! I’m also a big fan of Clapton, Page, Beck, and Hendrix.
With my skill set of strong lyrics writing and my love of the singer-songwriter style, I’ve created music mostly along those lines and then adapt it for the band by letting them put their stamps on it.
MuzicNotez: What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as a musician? Any particular message you wish to send?
- Pete Price: My goal is to continue to be creative and to do what I can to get my music in front of as many ears as possible. I no longer have to work for a living so I’ve been having a lot of fun pursuing my “second act” as a musician and songwriter. As long as I continue to enjoy what I’m doing, I’ll keep going!
MuzicNotez: What’s the latest release of yours? Tell us about it.
- Pete Price: My album is called Department of the Interior and it’s about the rich inner lives that we all can have if we’re willing to listen to our hearts. There are songs of gratitude, sadness, longing, hope,…even a 21st century protest-style song. Musically, it encompasses genres from folk to blues to rock to jazz.
I recorded 8 songs in Nashville with a great producer and some of the best musicians in the world. The other 4 songs were recorded in my hometown of Dayton, Ohio and I was able to get some of my favorite local musicians to come in and help me out.
The album has done well by my standards, notching over 120,000 Spotify streams in 49 countries and the videos have been seen nearly 24,000 times on YouTube.
