MuzicNotez: First off, it’s an honor to be doing this interview with you, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us.
What motivated you to start creating music? What age did you begin?
- Sheyna Gee: I started playing guitar when I was 5, after my parents got divorced and my mom realized I was horrible at sports. I took to it quickly and wrote my first song at 6 which is also when I played my first show at the Showcase Theater in Corona, California.

MuzicNotez: Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the musician you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?
- Sheyna Gee: My favorite bands growing up were the famous bands at the time since I’m a 90’s kid. Alanis, Sublime, Nirvana, Jewel and Green Day to name a few. I didn’t dive deep into country music until I was an adult but The Dixie Chick’s and Shania were definitely on my radar when I was younger.
MuzicNotez: What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as a musician? Any particular message you wish to send?
- Sheyna Gee: My ultimate goal is to play Red Rocks and The Ryman. The message most of my music portrays is that we all have ups and downs, but enjoy the ride, and smoke some pot while you’re at it.
MuzicNotez: What’s the greatest concert you’ve ever been to or performed?
- Sheyna Gee: Seeing Tyler Childers open for Margo Price before he was the super star he is today and having the whole Ryman sing White House Road was pretty epic. Also seeing Taylor Swift at a little club called the Branding Iron when I was 15. It’s always cool to see bands before they’re huge. For me, opening for Stevie Wonder was epic and last December I got to perform with some members of The Beach Boys and The Bangles. I’ll never get over playing every single show, it still blows my mind that playing music is my job.
MuzicNotez: Your latest release is the EP ‘Angela’, which is amazing by the way! What’s this release mean to you? What inspired it?
- Sheyna Gee: Angela was a release that was a long time coming. I wrote for that EP for a whole year to make sure I had the best songs and really wanted to put out something that was heavier than anything else I’d released. These songs represent where I’m at now with “The Moon” and “Dirt” and where I’ve been with “Lost and Found” being about my old neighborhood and “Angela” about a horrible relationship that I finally washed my hands of.
MuzicNotez: You started out in California and then moved to Nashville. What was that transition like for you?
- Sheyna Gee: I’m a California girl through and through, I love the beach and grew up there so it’ll always be home but Nashville has been so welcoming. I love playing on Broadway when I’m in town and writing with the best writers in the world. There really is nothing like the music community in Nashville and it’s been so cool to see the city grow.
MuzicNotez: Your brand of country is unique and original, more alternative, or “Y’allternative” to be exact. How would you describe your sound? What makes you different?
- Sheyna Gee: I put out music that’s true to me in the moment. Sometimes it’s more country sometimes it leans rock but it all represents me. I write around a hundred or more songs a year and when I feel truly connected with one, I put it out and try not to worry about what fits in with the trends.
MuzicNotez: What else are you working on? What can we expect to see and hear from you in the future?
- Sheyna Gee: I’ll be dropping a ton of new music with an acoustic version of my song Ghost coming next and an EP I recorded at Abbey Road in London. I’ll be touring all of 2023 so hope to meet everyone out on the road!
