Interview with country Artist Alex Miller

MuzicNotez: First off, it’s an honor to be doing this interview with you, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us.

What motivated you to start creating music? What age did you begin?

Alex Miller: What motivated me when I first started was my grandad. He was a great lover of music, but he couldn’t play or sing — he just loved classic country music. That’s what he would talk about whenever we were out working on the farm. I truthfully believe that’s what led me to pursue music at the ripe old age of 3! Lol

MuzicNotez: Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the musician you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?

Alex Miller: My idol growing up was Hank Williams Sr. I loved the way he could write and sing his songs. He had the ability to reach out and make his listeners feel something, and as an artist that is one of my ultimate goals!

MuzicNotez: What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as a musician? Any particular message you wish to send?

Alex Miller: My goal for my music is for it to be as genuine as I am! I’m just a good ole country boy singing a good old country song, and as long as my audience goes away thinking that, then I feel that my music is doing exactly what it needs to do.

MuzicNotez: What’s the greatest concert you’ve ever been to or performed?

Alex Miller: The greatest concert I have ever been to and been apart of is the Lee Greenwood tribute concert in Huntsville Alabama. Everybody was there from Dustin Lynch, Lee Brice, Quincy Jones to the Oak Ridge Boys! It was wild and I even got to do a duet with my friend Rhonda Vincent. We got a standing ovation and it made my life!

MuzicNotez: You came in to the limelight in 2019 with your run on American Idol, what was that experience like for you?

Alex Miller: My American Idol experience has been the biggest adventure I’ve ever been on in my life. I never thought that I would be on a show like that, let alone do well on there. It has truly changed my life. It has allowed me to see and do things that I only dreamed about as a kid, and I’m very thankful.

MuzicNotez: Your latest release is the music video for your single ‘When God Made The South’. We love the song, and the video turned out great! What was the recording process like for this? How long did it take? Who came up with the concept?

Alex Miller: Recording the song was a nice change of speed for me. I needed a song that showed off my rocking side, and this little tune sure does that! It was a blast to record that is for sure. Now as far as the video goes, I always remembered watching party music videos from the early 2000s, and thought partying on the farm would fit ‘South’ perfectly. So that’s what we did we partied on the farm!

MuzicNotez: We love that your bringing back that old school traditional country sound, it’s in your classic country voice and charisma all around. What do you think are the main differences between that classic country and the new stuff? How difficult is it to make new country music, with a traditional vibe?

Alex Miller: I think the main difference between the classics and the new stuff is mostly in the production side of things. The “classics” usually had a lot more steel guitar and fiddle, where as “new” country tends to be more pop influenced. To me I hate comparing the two! I think they’re all one myself. Music is subjective to who is listening. There is no right and there’s no wrong, which is why it’s so hard to navigate at times. When it comes to me and my music, I’ve been trying to ride the line between commercial success, and my roots. It don’t matter if I cut a KISS song, it’s still gonna sound traditional just because of my delivery. To me the person singing a song determines what genre they are not the other way around.

MuzicNotez: What else are you working on? What can we expect to see and hear from you in the future?

Alex Miller: I have hopped on the singles wagon! Everything is cyclical, and singles are in, and albums are out. I do like the idea of an EP release, which is also in the works for the near future. My plan is to release singles, my next being a song I’m really excited about “Girl I Know A Guy.”
