Country star Richard Lynch has been a mainstay in the genre for a long time now, and he’s seen people come and go more than most. This is also where he found the inspiration for his latest single, “Radio Friend,” a melancholic tribute to his long time friend, DJ Ray “Chubby” Howard, who passed away in 2021. Musically, it’s quite simple song, which fits the artist’s modus operandi perfectly. Soft acoustic guitars maintain a sweet mood, keeping up a melody that’s both nostalgic and melancholic. The sad atmosphere is bolstered by some great piano work where it’s needed, and a steady drum maintains the song’s relaxed pace well.

Everything is also produced very well, with the instrumentation separation being excellent and the arrangements keeping up the sadder tone of the song. It’s not overly complex, which works great with the way Richard sings as he tells listeners the stories and memories of his late friend DJ Ray Howard.

“Radio Friend” is a fantastic tribute song, and it’s also one of the strongest Richard Lynch showings we’ve seen. Emotionally potent and strikingly sweet, the song is carried by Richard’s excellent vocal performance, a testament to his skill on the microphone.
