MuzicNotez: Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the musician you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?
OnPlanetZu: Growing up, my influences were definitely artists with personalities that were over the top, such as George Clinton, Prince, Boy George, David Bowie, Bootsy Collins, James Brown. These personalities also took music to boundaries where nobody else was brave enough to go. That is the category that I feel I am in now today. The same genres and styles that those guys did back then are the styles that influence me in my music, and how I challenge myself with it now.
MuzicNotez: What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as a musician? Any particular message you wish to send?
OnPlanetZu: As a musician, I want to be regularly on tour. I want my music to reach all over the planet. I want the music to communicate that there are other styles of music that still artistic, innovative and can get the listener excited. Not just more of the same watered down mainstream stuff on some brainwashing rotation. I want my music to help people learn how to be excited about music again, as an art and as an expression.
MuzicNotez: What is your latest release?
OnPlanetZu: We have just released OnPlanetZu’s second album, King of the Planet.
MuzicNotez: What else are you working on? What can we expect to see and hear from you in the future?
OnPlanetZu: It’s funny that you mention that. I’m excited to announce that we have been recording some really fun songs for George Clinton’s upcoming Funkadelic album. We are also working on our third OnPlanetZu album called, ‘I’m Famous As Whad!’ On that album you can expect to hear us getting deeper into trap, electronic, hardcore bass; along with serious experimenting with some freaky styles.
