It’s been a few months now since Nuborg – Norway singer-songwriter Gunhild Nyborg – first came to our attention with her song ‘Sliding Off The Edge Of The World’. The single was one of a series released throughout 2014, building up to the eventual album release of the same name.
And now, as 2015, so comes the release of this long awaited joy.
Each song we’ve heard from Nuborg has been excellent, and putting them all together in one individual release is something to be celebrated. The clarity of the vocal, cutting through the strains of ambient pop that surround it, is truly a thing of beauty. Not only that, but these are songs that stay in your head and your thoughts long after they’ve finished.
They may not be ‘catchy’ in the vein of your average pop song, but they will needle their way under your skin with their mixed themes of isolation, missed opportunities and promising love. It sounds depressing when you write it out like that, but it’s anything but – it’s just beautiful.
