Already getting national UK radio play from its lead track ‘Sometimes’, the new EP fro Josh Healey is a tour de fource in how to write impactful songs without resorting to simply turning up the volume. Like an attractive lady talking softly so you have to lean in to hear, there is something seductive about his velvet voice, a vocal which never seems to rise above more than a decibel or two.
Complimented by the acoustic guitar and a host of other subtle instrumental touches (depending on the song), the vocal and lyrics are what makes this release stand out. Healey continues to develop from previous releases, and this is arguably his smartest yet, both lyrically and musically.
With flashes of Nick Drake and Ralph McTell, both known for their atmospheric way with a strong rootsy tune, Healey is a talent to watch and it will be interesting to see what develops as his career continues. In the meantime, there’s plenty to enjoy here, so this should keep you going.
