UK experimental label Melted Leather Records just released the new niche genres mini-compilation album ‘Tour’. This showcases Dark Pop, Chiptune and New Brit Rock artists from the UK and USA. The acts introduced on ‘Tour’ are City Rise (Liverpool Echo), Seasons (BBC Introducing: Radio Hereford & Worcester), and the Las Vegas based AUS.
Electronica producer Seasons kick starts the set with “Crystal Shards”, a video game inspired Chiptune powerhouse, packed with crazy and uplifting melodies reminiscent of those awesome nostalgic times.
Linking onto this is Liverpool based alt rock quartet City Rise, with their tightly produced New Brit Rock epic “Bring You Down” – Hard rock and metal elements contrast with honest and emotion fuelled lyrics about being better off alone.
This builds to the strangest track in the set, “The Next Life” – Dark Pop artist AUS beholds a bold, haunting story about gaining a second chance in the next lifetime, using a chasm of ensemble vocals against a minimal ballad style backing.
The inception of “TOUR” was born out of the observation that niche genres such as Trap and House were starting to take over Pop in the mainstream, which got the label thinking about the other niche genres that deserve a spotlight too.
