January 15, 2014 —Los Angeles, CA —”A Little Night Music” is the debut EP for Allen D,who was voted Mainstream Impact Artist for 2013 by the Independent Music Network. Allen’s ambition is to introduce the fans of electronic dance music to the standard songs from the Great American Songbook.
His chart-climbing hit from 2013 was based on the Cole Porter classic, “In The Still of The Night,” a track included in the EP. His follow-up single for 2014 is the first track of the EP, “You and The Night and The Music,” music by Arthur Schwartz and lyrics by Howard Dietz. It debuted as 2nd most added on the AC40 chart, 3rd most added on the Top40 chart and 5th most added on FMQB, according to New Music Weekly.
The EP includes another song by Cole Porter, “So In Love” as an electronic samba. It also includes a hipped-up, hopped-up version of “No One Sleeps (Nessun Dorma)” the famous song by Puccini from the opera Turandot. It’s “A Little Night Music” for those who like electronic dance tracks and can also appreciate amazing melodies and chord changes.
After graduating from college in 1957, Allen began a successful career as a songwriter and music producer, racking up several hits and winning a BMI Country Music Award in 1958 before moving on to become a film composer. In 1986 he retired from music to become a researcher in science and medicine. He published numerous papers in the peer-review journals and was granted three patents on AIDS drugs and one for a novel telescope. In 2010 Allen retired as the CEO of a publicly traded biotech company and returned to the music business, thanks to modern software that lets Allen play, mix, and record his musical scores on his laptop.
