MuzicNotez: First off, it’s an honor to be doing this interview with you, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us.
Introduce yourselves, what are your names and positions in the band?
Western Avenue: Thanks for having us! We are Western Avenue, a contemporary country group from Central Ontario Canada. Matt Williams (Vocals & Guitar), Nikki English (Vocals)& Keith Robertson (Vocals & Guitar). Let’s have some fun!
MuzicNotez: What motivated you all to start creating music?
Western Avenue: The motivation came from a sit-down conversation we had in March 2012. We had been a cover band for 5 years & we all had created songs in the past. We decided that day that we were going to record a song (Highway Headin’ Out of Town) & see how it turned out. We were blown away with how Newcomb Studios produced the song so we decided to do an EP Album. The rest is history… haha
MuzicNotez: Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the band you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?
Western Avenue: All of our musical influences vary soo much! Collectively we all love bands like Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Taylor Swift, Fleetwood Mac, Keith Urban, Sugarland. Anything with sing-along verses & arena-rock choruses!! Nikki’s influences stretch all the way back to watching Disney movies, Keith’s = all old country tunes, Matt = Celtic music & singing Take Me Out To The Ball Game a million times with my Mom when I was 3 years old (ha!).
MuzicNotez: How did you come up with the name Western Avenue?
Western Avenue: It’s one of those things that sometimes I wish there was a better story behind it… haha. Our initial practices were on a street called Western Avenue. We were looking for a band name & I was driving to rehearsal and thought “Hey…Western Avenue would be a cool name”. Kind of has that country-roots undertone to it. Got to rehearsal & told Nikki & she said that she had been thinking the same thing! From that moment on, we were Western Avenue!
