As we know from experience, magazines and other press opportunities receive hundreds of submissions a day. There are millions of indie musicians worldwide all looking for the same exposure. You might be a small fish in a big sea, but we want to help you succeed as much as possible. If you have the proper tools at hand, you will stand out from the crowd and have a higher chance to become heard. That’s what it’s all about, you put so much heart and passion in to your music, and it deserves to be heard. Without the proper promotional techniques, it may go undiscovered and un-enjoyed.
Our mission here at MuzicNotez is to help the undiscovered become discovered. As you know we have all kinds of services to work with you to do this. However if you’re your own manager and publicist, we want to give you advice to succeed. A lot of this advice might be a given to most, however we’ve seen the same mistakes come through time and time again. Some musicians are amazingly talented artists, however not necessarily at marketing and promoting. However making your amazing music without the proper skills to expose it, is like having beautiful art without the eyes to see it. It’s not only a letdown to you, but to the fans that would thoroughly enjoy it, or the lives that may be potentially changed by it.
What to do:
Have a press kit developed to best and quickly showcase yourself
Have a quality looking website to showcase your music
Have all of the popular social platforms
Facebook, Twitter, Google+, etc.
On Twitter have a specific hash tag for yourself to promote
Image is everything, have quality promo pics, tracks and video(s)
When submitting to press, make it quick, easy and to the point
Attach a link to instantly stream your music not attached files
Maybe give a unique fact about yourself to stand out
Be yourself, but be professional. Your music career is a business
What not to do:
Do not bother sending links to low quality audio files, poorly recorded live shows, or generic videos with just a picture to the whole track.
Don’t send mp3’s or other files when submitting your music unless asked to first. Typically press won’t even open the email with attachments. Always send a link to quickly stream your music.
Don’t be abusively promoting on social media. If you continually post after post after post the same link, you will lose fans and respect.
NEVER submit without a link to check you out right away or email to contact you again (obviously right?).
Don’t be disrespectful, or full of yourself. Don’t burn bridges.
