Detroit, Michigan – White Shag, a hard rock, female fronted, power trio hailing from the Motor City, took home the award for Outstanding Hard Rock/Metal Group at the Detroit Music Awards. The event was held this past Friday, April 19 at the Fillmore in Detroit, Michigan.
The band was up against some heavy contenders that span more than one genre such as Wilson (who is currently on tour with Gwar and Warbeast), As Darkness Falls and 60 Second Crush it and were clearly deemed the “underdogs” of the category. The outrageous uproar that erupted as soon as the band’s name was announced clearly proved that White Shag is an upcoming rock and roll force to be reckoned with.

“We are honored and flattered that we won this award,” says Laura Mendoza, lead singer and bassist of the band. “We feel like this is not just a victory for us as a band, but a victory for rock and roll, which is what we love to play more than anything,” states Jorge Cortez, lead guitarist, who makes a good point considering the pop-dominated world we’re living in right now.
This victory comes at a very convenient time for the stoner/glam/garage rock trio who is getting ready to release a video for their single “Die For Me” off of their latest self-titled EP. The video was directed by Tony D’Annunzio and edited by Karl Rausch, who were responsible for the critically acclaimed documentary “Louder Than Love – The Grande Ballroom Story”.
