MuzicNotez: First off, it’s an honor to be doing this interview with you Glitter, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us.
What motivated you to start creating music? What age did you begin?
Glitter Rose: Thank you for having me! I started writing songs at age 12. I always loved music and entertainment, and wanted to be in it in some form, but I had no idea I had a talent for songwriting until my first song popped into my head. From the moment I wrote it, I knew it was what I wanted to do for life.
MuzicNotez: Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the musician you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?
Glitter Rose: I’ve been inspired by so many different artists and styles. Big influences are The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, Beatles more in my early writing stages and Stones as I got older. There was a period in my teens that I was very inspired by Motley Crue and Guns n Roses, and decided to play hard rock music for about 5 years. I’ve always idolized Elvis Presley, and he could possibly be my biggest inspiration as an artist.
MuzicNotez: What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as a musician? Any particular message you wish to send?
Glitter Rose: My goal has always been to inspire people the way that other musicians have inspired me. Giving people hope and happiness is why I make music. I’ve been fortunate enough to already achieve that goal in a small way, but I wish for it to expand across the globe, on a major level, and bring hope into the hearts of music lovers everywhere.
MuzicNotez: What’s the greatest concert you’ve ever been to or performed?
Glitter Rose: Wow, my favorite concert experience ever was one of my own shows when I was 16 years old. I was headlining the Headbanger’s Ball in Ft. Worth, TX at The Ridglea Theater. 3,500 high school kids ready to rock and we tore the house down. It was the biggest crowd I’d played to at that point and the rush was unbelievable.
MuzicNotez: You recently played your 3,000th show already! How was it?
Glitter Rose: It was an amazing night! Most of all, for me, I was excited to share it with some very special friends and fans that were able to attend. Some of those people have been through a lot with me throughout my career and know the hardships as much as the good times. Most of all, it just showed me how important it is for me to do what I do for my fans, and that 3,000 more is definitely in my plans.
MuzicNotez: You have received countless nominations and awards over your 15 year career including 4 in 2013. How’s it feel to have your music acknowledged in this way?
Glitter Rose: To receive accolades for art that I create is a very satisfying experience. I’ve been blessed to work with some incredible people like my co-producer Dran Michael and director Amy Campione, who have brought my art to life and made it that much more visible to the industry for it to be recognized. I feel honored to have so many organizations and programs taking notice.
MuzicNotez: Your involved in several new projects as well, what are they?
Glitter Rose: I’ve been doing more organizing of events, especially charity based. In October 2013, I hosted a benefit for Susan G. Komen and we were able to give 100% of proceeds to the Los Angeles County affiliate. With the help of my sponsors and endorsements, all items for the event were donated, including items for the silent auction and we raised over $3,200. Since I am a Gibson artist, we were able to host the event at Gibson Showroom Beverly Hills, and teamed up with the Artists In Music Awards to present Michelle Phillips of The Mamas and The Papas the Lifetime Achievement Award for 2014. In Spring of 2014 in Malibu, CA, we will be organizing an event to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, again giving 100% of the proceeds to the charity. More details to come on that… I’ve also become more involved with film in the past year and plan to keep myself active in that community as well, as a producer, actor, and music licensing.
MuzicNotez: You’re in the upcoming film ‘American Girl’ and also wrote the title track and made a video for it. What can you tell us about this movie and your role in it?
Glitter Rose: The movie is a heartfelt, complex coming of age story for a young woman in modern times. The characters in the movie all have intriguing elements and it unfolds into quite a romantic drama. My role is very cool, as I play myself in the film. What I love about ‘American Girl’ is all the musical aspects of the film. Several characters in the film are musicians and showcase their music throughout, and there are a couple concert scenes with indie bands in Los Angeles, including myself. The film is set to debut in 2014, and is being submitted to film festivals such as Tribeca, Sundance, etc. I am an associate producer on the film as well.
MuzicNotez: Working on anything new? What can we expect from you in the future?
Glitter Rose: In 2014, I’ll be taking on other artists to produce. This is a vision I’ve had for quite some time, and during the recording process of my album “Dead or Alive” I was able to mentor with Dran Michael and really discovered that production is a field I’d like to be more involved in. I want to bring out in recordings that spark I see in artists as they perform their music live. I want people to feel the moment, as if they were in the audience, when they listen to their records. For my music, I have plans to film a short film/music video with Amy Campione for my song “Kody Was A Killer”, place more of my music in TV and film, and record my 3rd full-length album.
MuzicNotez: Anything else you wish to say about yourself or your music? Any message for your fans?
Glitter Rose: I’m very excited to be performing at the 2014 Artists In Music Awards at Jon Lovitz Theater at Universal Citywalk February 7, 2014. I’m nominated for 4 awards this year, including the most prestigious Artist of the Year. Hoping to take some home and continue the year in a productive and positive direction. I’d like to thank all my friends and fans for their votes, support, love and continued dedication to my music. I couldn’t ask for better people to make music for!
