Young Roach’s MNotez Interview:
- MNotez: How long have you been a musician? What age did you begin?
- Young Roach: I’ve been a musician all my life. Comedy and love are my instruments. But, I have only realized my ability to freestyle rap 12 months ago when I recorded my first freestyle.
- MNotez: What motivated you to become a musician?
- Young Roach: I started freestyle rapping for fun, then linked up with my next door neighbor named Rollie Fingaz (CEO of Zuken Records) who taught me the basics of how to piece together a track. He was like Dr Frankenstein, and now I am a freestyling poetical monster.
- MNotez: Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the musician you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?
- Young Roach: I’ve always had an eclectic palette for music. But I like the immediacy of hip hop and how I can lay down my verses in just a couple of minutes on the spot. But Rollie Fingaz, Kenny Powers, George Costanza, John Stamos, Big Meech, Larry Hoover, Dan Crooks, J Splod, Furby, are basically people who keep it movin.
- MNotez: What’s the greatest concert you’ve ever been to or performed?
- Young Roach: Poison. Last year, in Virginia. Girls were flashin, seen a couple nipple slips.
- MNotez: If you could play with any other musician or band… who would it be? (past or present)
- Young Roach: Bob Marley, Dr Octagon, Aesop Rock, Ghandi, Jesus, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Nas, Damian Marley, Michael Jackson.
- MNotez: What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as a musician? Any particular message you wish to send?
- Young Roach: I want music to be fun and fresh. I would like to gain international recognition. I want the gwop and the props. Dig em?
- MNotez: Any specific reason you decided to go down the comedy style of music?
- Young Roach: It just kind of happened that way. When I step up to the microphone that’s usually the approach I take.
- MNotez: Do you believe it’s harder or easier to break into the music industry being in the comedy field of things?
- Young Roach: I feel like that helped me bust into the industry quicker.
- MNotez: Out of all your songs or albums… do you have a favorite? What is it? And why?
- Young Roach: “Straight Drop” was one of my first freestyles that sounded official. So I gotta go with that one.
- MNotez: How do you believe the internet helps the music industry or you as a musician?
- Young Roach: It allows me to contact my fans, producers, friends, family, to share my music.
- MNotez: What kind of hobbies do you have when you’re not creating music?
- Young Roach: I smoke here and there, twerk to and fro, and swag surf when applicable.
- MNotez: Anything else you wish to say about yourself or your music?
- Young Roach: Google me if you’d like to know more. God Bless
