Staccato piano behind Elle Casazza’s strong sad low vocal on “You” makes for a ballad you can’t ignore. Here in her 2nd single from her album Proof, which was released at the end of 2016, we get this singular singer/songwriter/instrumentalist placing just the exact needed embellishments of harmony vocals, layering of instruments and pushing her piano to dramatic ends. It’s heady stuff from a lady who at times pushed her striking vocal like Amy Winehouse as much as Freddie Mercury.
Chicago native Casazza says of her emotional wring-you-dry ballad: “Writing ‘You’ was writing a promise to myself. After a tumultuous and emotional night, the first verse just poured out of me. It’s not only a love ballad to that someone special in my life, but to myself as well.”
