It isn’t often that a new artist comes along and by one song entraps you with their raw guttural passion for giving you the vocals you deserve as a listener and lover of music. Emma Cole did just that for me when I heard her song “Is this but a Dream” a vocally powerful song that will definitely fill your goose pimple quota for the day. Another song “High Times” will give you Fiona Apple vibes. Her latest single “He Will” is reminiscent of the 60’s and 70’s big band blues era, mixed with a tinge of Rock and Roll. It’s sure to be a dance anthem for all of the Independent woman out there, “If you aint gonna love me He Will!” is a powerful yet true statement that everyone has wanted to say but couldn’t. Her tenacious take on lyrics and life is a welcome addition to the music scene. Her voice is powerful and unforgiving in its tone and veracity. Making you wonder where it all came from and wanting to know more. I messaged her as soon as I heard her first song, and had to ask.
“I have an interesting array of inspiration. Ray Charles, Billie Holiday, Etta James, Pink Floyd, Amy Winehouse, Leonard Cohen, Nas, Biggie, I could go on and on.”
With such an eclectic list of inspiration it’s no wonder she had me hooked at first listen. Emma Cole is an artist with a purpose, the vocal era is on the rise, and she is one to watch out for.
